Munch, Rothko, Kandinsky, Pollock, Mondrian, Magritte, Man Ray, Duchamp, Calder, amongst many others.
In photographic terms there are so many photographers that are inspirational, but a few stand out ones for me are: Alexander Rodchenko, Diane Arbus, Martin Parr, Don Mccullin, Steve Mcurry, Bresson, Paul Strand, John Davies, Richard Avendon, Robert Mapplethorpe to name but a few. Along with admiration for National Geographic, Michel Palin's travel logs. The BJP and Magnum ... of course.
My work is a wide mix of genres, it includes still lives dealing with themes of memory, experience and emotion. Also environmental concerns and journeys into expressionism.
A love of environment through landscapes (natural or otherwise). A love of experiences and recollection.
Travel and people watching are another fascination, as is the collecting of characters through portraiture, enjoying the connection and insight this provides.
Commercial work varies from lifestyle approaches to high end lighting in studio techniques, fulfilling briefs and concepts working with other creatives in the world of visual communication.
I feel my personal work shows this understanding and interest well.
Helping to produce work that satisfies and communicates ideas to wider audiences.
Light, tone, texture, colour, composition, all help in the understanding of subject matter, helping communication of content and context which bring a sense of fulfilment derived in the experience, capturing scenes or concepts of merit.
All creativity and experimentation brings greater understanding of the visual medium to be open and enabled not closed and withdrawn.
Having started out assisting high profile London based photographers, I am now a London based photographer, with extensive travel, studio and location experience.
